SEP stands for Super Energy Protein, a protein drink for weight loss. The protein drink was developed to lose weight by Dr. med. med. Armand Herberger, cosmetic surgeon at the Musenhof Clinic in Deidesheim. The SEP diet can be assigned to the formula diets, as well as low carb or protein diets.

With the diet drink single meals, the lunch and / or the supper, are to be replaced during a diet and so the supply with important proteins, vitamins, minerals and trace elements, with at the same time reduced calorie quantity, are ensured.
Three diet products as part of the SEP diet:
- SEP protein diet (flavor vanilla) contains a mix of proteins with vitamins, minerals and trace elements as a meal replacement. (450g / 10 servings)
- SEP protein concentrate (flavors chocolate, forest berry, vanilla) contains a combination of whey protein isolates, vitamins, minerals and L-carnitine as a meal replacement. (375 g / 15 servings)
- SEP Minerale (cherry flavor) contains minerals and vitamins to ensure a supply of the electrolyte balance.
The SEP protein drinks are intended to counteract the breakdown of muscle mass during the diet. There are two different product pacts, the SEP protein concentrate diet and the four week SEP protein diet regimen, which, however, are not significantly different in structure. Different products are used in each case.
During the SEP diet, the SEP Drink replaces a meal 2-3 times a day. The SEP diet drink consists mainly of whey protein, milk protein, L-caritin, aspartame, acesulfame as well as vitamins and minerals.
The day should start with a normal breakfast, which has a nutritional value of about 300-600 kcal. The reason for this is that the body can only use carbohydrates in the morning. If you eat carbohydrates during the day, they are supposedly used for fat. An example of a breakfast recommendation is: one to two rolls or bread with butter, jam or honey, possibly an egg or cereal.
Lunch and dinner should be replaced with the SEP protein drink. If you are still hungry, drink another SEP protein concentrate drink. The drink is mixed with about 200 ml of cold skimmed milk (1.5%) or, in the case of milk intolerance, with water. It is also recommended to drink at least 1-2 liters of fluid (water, tea or other low-carbohydrate drinks) daily during the SEP diet. In order to cover the vital substance content, the SEP mineral drink should also be taken daily.
Fruit and fruit juices should be avoided as far as possible due to their high fructose content. Likewise on sweets. One glass of wine per day is allowed. Vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, radishes, leeks and mushrooms are allowed and may be eaten in addition to the daily breakfast and the SEP drinks. If you want to enjoy a normal lunch or dinner instead of the diet drink, Mediterranean food from fish, poultry, vegetables or salad is recommended.
As a diet, a period of 4-6 weeks is recommended. Beyond this diet period, a SEP drink is recommended daily.
To change the diet, the main meals should be reduced by half of the previously eaten amount (FDH diet) and consist of lean poultry and fish, steamed vegetables and salad. The carbohydrate intake from foods such as fruits, fruit juices, potatoes, pasta, bread and other pastries is to be reduced and it is mainly Mediterranean foods with a low glycemic index are eaten to reduce the insulin secretion of the body after eating.
A diet can be successful in the long run, so even over the dieter, only if the overall eating and exercise behavior is changed. Learning new patterns of behavior should therefore be an important part. However, this is clearly too short for the SEP diet.
Basically, the principle of losing weight is based on a reduced calorie intake. That means it has to be eaten less than the body consumes. Now you can achieve this with increased activity, a balanced, calorie-reduced diet or by replacing individual meals with formula products.
However, meal replacement products should not only consist of protein and nutrients, but also of essential fats and carbohydrates. However, because the SEP diet drink consists mainly of proteins, there may be a shortage of essential fats and complex carbohydrates during this diet.
The diet products from SEP are very expensive: 6 cans cost 336 euros, which is about a monthly cure. It is a pity that the website of the provider does not provide transparency on the ingredients of the diet product and the amino acid profile. It is also not clear how many calories a diet drink contains.
The importance of sports in weight loss is mentioned only very briefly and is not part of the SEP diet. Exercise, even more activity in everyday life, should necessarily accompany a weight loss. Alone, to reduce the inevitable loss of muscle in a diet.
